Mosquitoes can transmit diseases including Zika, Yellow Fever, Malaria, and the Chikungunya Virus, and we could become infected as a result. So, how can you tell if the mosquito that bit you was carrying one of these diseases and if you were infected as a result of its bite? Let’s find out!
What Are The Symptoms Of An Infected Mosquito Bite?
There are a variety of symptoms that can be related to a mosquito bite and may suggest that you are having an allergic reaction to the mosquito bite or that you have been infected with one of the more common diseases transmitted by mosquitoes.
Adults with mosquito bite allergies are uncommon since most adults have developed resistance to the allergens carried by mosquitoes when they bite. These allergens can be present in mosquito saliva.
However, this type of allergy is not uncommon in children, particularly younger children, because they have not yet developed the essential antibodies and may still exhibit symptoms of a mosquito bite allergy. If the bite site becomes red, swollen, and painful, with some bruising and inflammation occurring within 24-48 hours of the bite, this is a symptom of an allergic reaction.
The symptoms can be managed with medicine, but if they do not go away after a few days, you should contact a doctor to ensure that the allergy is not serious and that more serious treatment is not required.
However, if you begin to experience fever, headache, nausea, confusion, or any other more severe symptoms, you should consult a doctor because these are certainly symptoms of something more serious than a mild allergy.
These can be signs of any of the mosquito-borne diseases, from Malaria to West Nile Virus and even Meningitis. So, if you have even the slightest suspicion that you have one of these more serious mosquito bite symptoms, you should see your doctor right away since the sooner you treat the infection, the faster you will recover.
How Can You Keep Mosquitoes Away From You?
The best option is to apply preventative measures in and around your yard. We recommend the use of a mosquito misting system to treat the area where you regularly spend time to ensure that no mosquitos bite you or your loved ones. You should consider misting the area where you spend your mornings and evenings, such as your patio or garden, because mosquitoes are most active during these times and you are more likely to be bitten by one.
Wear long-sleeved, loose-fitting shirts, long, loose pants, socks. etc. to prevent mosquito bites in the first place. Use these and other mosquito repellent strategies to keep these pests at bay and avoid worrying about whether or not your mosquito bite is infected.
